Is Sean Avery good for the NHL?

Controversy isn't anything new for super pest Sean Avery, but his most recent comments may have crossed the line, and then some. Avery was quoted as saying, "I'm really happy to be back in Calgary, happy to be back in Canada, and I just want to comment that it's become a common thing in the NHL for guys to fall in love with my sloppy seconds, I don't know what that's about, but enjoy the game." referring to Calgary Flames star defense man Dion Phaneuf's girlfriend awho just happens to be Avery's ex-girlfriend, Elisha Cuthbert (TV series 24).
After Avery had made those comments regarding Phaneuf's girlfriend, the Dallas Stars suspended the forward indefinitely. NHL commissioner Gary Bettman said Avery's comments were "detrimental to the league or game of hockey."
This isn't anything new for Avery, who played previously for teams like the New York Rangers, Detroit Red Wings, and L.A Kings. His mouth seems to get him more attention in the hockey world than his hockey skills. You might even be able to compare him to NFL superstar Terrel Owens, except Avery is no superstar. In his first season since signing with the Dallas Stars, Avery has three goals and seven assists, for a toal of ten points in 23 games played. All this for a salary of just under four million per season.

He's a bum!
Oh my God! This guy is a bum. I never hear his name come up on the score sheet. All he is, is a mouth piece. Phaneuf would kill this guy in a fight.
Agreed, enough said! He had
Agreed, enough said! He had one good year last year. Nothing great but good enough for a player like him. I'm getting sick of hearing this guy talk. I bet the Stars release him and no NHL team will ever sign him again. Have fun playing in Russia.
Out of line...
I agree Avery was out of line with his "sloppy seconds" comment - but why suspend him indefinitely? I suppose it does look poorly on the NHL blah blah, but how many jocks in their careers have opened their mouths and something dumb comes out?? He's not paid the big bucks to be smart. I think the situation would have been better handled with a nice big fine to the NHL for his comment (as he can definitely afford it with a 4 million per year contract, wholly cow!) It also would have been nice to see Phaneuf give him some big hits during the game... but seeing how he's suspended... Lastly, I really hope Elisha Cuthbert makes a claim against him for defamation of character or slander or something because she could make a pretty penny off of it.
