How to cure hiccups
We've all had them, and we all hate them. So how do we rid ourselves from hiccups? Well lets first actually dive a little deeper into the matter. It seems everyone has their own way to cure hiccups, and Lord knows we've tried almost all of them. If someone tells us about a new way to cure hiccups, odds are we'll try it out. Even if it seems completely far fetched.
There have been reported cases of hiccups lasting as long as 60 years, but usually hiccups last more only a few minutes for the average person. The medical term for a hiccup is singultus which comes from the Latin word
singult, which means "the act of catching one's breath while
sobbing." Did you know that in some cases hiccups lasting longer than a month can result in death? It's also said that babies in the womb can hiccup around 2.5% during a womans pregnancy.
So what cause hiccups? Well there are multiple cause for hiccups that range from, eating to fast, swallowing air, hot drinks followed by cold drinks, infections, trauma, stress, anxiety and drinking alcohol just to name a few.
So now that we know several causes to hiccuping, what can we do to rid ourselves from it? Well in most cases time seems to fix this problem. Wait a few moments and see if it goes away... If you can't wait there are several things you might want to try... gargling with water, taking a mouth full of water then swallowing it while you touch your toes, eating sugar, biting a lemon and sipping some ice
water.
If none of these methods seem to work and your hiccups continue... Well your screwed.
