How to detect adware on your computer

Like most of us who use a computer on a daily basis, the thought of ad-ware is well... not much of a thought at all. Let's face it, when talking about ad-ware most of us are clueless. One of the most common things I hear from people who have been infected by ad-ware is that they complain about their computer being to slow... They say, "Man, I sure do need to buy a new computer." Maybe so, but have you ever thought that ad-ware might be the problem.
With the ever growing popularity of file sharing, ad-ware is no longer on the back burner. Many people don't realize that when they download that new top 40 hit by what's his name... They might be actually downloading ad-ware. If you are concerned about viruses and trojans, you should be concerned about ad-ware.
Here's some common clues to help you figure out if you might have ad-ware on your PC. Like I previously mention, if you computer is running abnormally slow, and takes awhile to start up, and shut down... You might be infected with ad-ware. The same can be said in regards to your Internet connection although sometimes this is harder to identify. If your computer constantly freezes or crashes... You might be infected with ad-ware. If you start noticing pop ups on your desktop or maybe new icons on your tool bar... Once again you guessed it... You might be infected with ad-ware.
So how can you get rid of this ad-ware problem once it is detected? Well most people tend to do a google search for some ad-ware removal software. I caution against this approach as many of these free applications contain ad-ware themselves. If you do end up going this route I suggest also looking at customer reviews for the software and options before you decide to download it. However if your cheap like me it is almost certain you'll go this route. I personally suggest Lavasoft AdAware and Spybot Search and Destroy. Alternatively you can buy ad-ware removal software, or if your lucky you might already have ad-ware removal software that come with the anti virus software you are currently using... You do have anti virus software installed don't you?
Once you have acquired the ad-ware removal software of your choice all you have to do is install the program and run on your PC.

I'm not a computer expert or
I'm not a computer expert or anything but why would there be adware in adware removal software? And what's the difference between adware and spyware?

I always thought is was the same... just a different name. But don't take my word for it. I know nothing. Just a guess.
Well spyware is allot like
Well spyware is allot like adware but it is more intrusive. As a result it becomes a security risk. Adware is pretty common in freeware and such. Most companies offer you free software with adware to be used for marketing purposes. It's also important to point out that adware isn't like a trojan or a virus. The main problem with adware is that it uses your computers resources. Thus slowing your PC because adware is running in the background.
